Frequently Asked Questions
Why Direct Care
Dermatology is a visual and diagnostic specialty. It requires time, attention, and continuity, things that are often compromised in insurance-driven care.
I chose a direct-care model so I can practice dermatology the way it should be practiced. Without insurance intermediaries, I can spend the time necessary to evaluate thoroughly, diagnose accurately, and recommend treatment thoughtfully. Visits are unhurried, decisions are physician-led, and care is never dictated by billing codes or approval timelines.
Direct care allows for clear communication, transparent pricing, and consistent follow-up. Most importantly, it preserves the physician-patient relationship. Every patient I see is treated personally, with medical judgment, restraint, and respect for individual goals.
This model is not for everyone. It is for patients who value expertise, continuity, and thoughtful care, and who prefer clarity over complexity when it comes to their health.
Do you accept insurance?
Avenue Dermatology does not participate with insurance plans. The practice operates on a direct-pay model so that care is guided by clinical judgment rather than coverage rules.
This approach allows Dr. Patel to provide thorough evaluations, meaningful face-to-face time, and treatment plans based on what is medically appropriate, not what requires prior authorization or fits within a billing structure. Fees are transparent and discussed in advance, and patients remain in control of their care decisions.
Some patients choose to submit receipts to their insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but all services are paid directly at the time of the visit.
Why did you choose a direct-care model?
I chose a direct-care model because dermatology is a diagnostic specialty that requires time, continuity, and careful assessment. These are difficult to preserve in insurance-driven settings.
Direct care allows me to see every patient personally, evaluate thoroughly, and recommend treatment without rushing or compromise. It restores clarity to the physician-patient relationship and allows care to be delivered thoughtfully, efficiently, and with intention.
This model supports better medicine and a better experience for patients who value expertise, consistency, and clear communication.
How does this approach apply to cosmetic services?
Cosmetic dermatology should be approached with the same clinical judgment as medical care. At Avenue Dermatology, aesthetic treatments are guided by anatomy, skin health, and long-term outcomes, not trends or volume.
The direct-care model allows time for proper evaluation, discussion of options, and conservative treatment planning. The goal is always natural, appropriate results that support healthy skin over time.
Patients seeking cosmetic care here value discretion, restraint, and physician-led decision-making rather than aggressive or standardized treatments.
